Northwestern Michigan Community Action Agency to host free homebuyer, money management classes
TRAVERSE CITY – Registration for Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency’s Money Management and Homebuyer Education is open for the month of July.
Due to the increase cost of living and additional expenses that the local community is facing, the agency’s Financial Management Services Department is offering free Money Management Workshop and Homebuyer Education for the month of July.

Money management classes come in a three-part series that can be taken in any order from 5:3-:30 pm on July 5, 12 and 19. Money management classes offers a wide variety of topics focusing on how to save, basic banking skills and building credit.
Homebuyer education classes is offered in a two-part series or in one session. Homebuyer education classes are available from 9 am to 1 pm on July 9. The two-part series is available from 5:30-7:30 pm on July 27 and 28. Homebuyer education classes cover every step of the homebuying process from how to determine a budget to what to expect on the day of closing.
All workshops are conducted on Zoom.
The agency also offers online, self-paced workshops containing the same material as the Zoom workshops. Cost of the self-paced Money Management Workshop is $35, and the self-paced Homebuyer Education Workshop is $99. The self-paced workshops are not part of the free workshops for the month of July.
The agency does offer scholarships for those whose income qualifies for the self-paced workshops. For those who are facing or experiencing foreclosure, the agency offers foreclosure education and budget coaching.
