TRAVERSE CITY – Great Lakes Children’s Museum offers weekly programs for preschool and elementary school students.
Kid’s Craft Lab starts at 1pm and 3:30 pm on November 22nd. Make a turkey tail fan out of scrap paper. Storytime Adventures will show the story “I am a turkey” on November 24th and 26th at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm. Register at glcm.org.
Playgroups are returning
GREILICKVILLE – 5toONE and NMCAA Early Head Start are offering playgroup meetings from November 24th to December 8th from 10-11: 30am at the Great Lakes Children’s Museum. TRAVERSE CITY – The Kitchen is offering its Thanksgiving Festival for pickup from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on November 25th. A meal for six is $ 159.95 and includes roast turkey, sausage and sage filling, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, buns, and pumpkin pie. Single dishes and side dishes are also available.

The closing date for entries is November 30th at 8:00 a.m. The winners will be announced at the end of December.

Michigan writer publishes novel
TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City writer Thomas L. Clark recently published his first Michigan-based novel, The Preacher’s Obsession. The story takes place in the fictional town of Slippery Flats and follows three Homeland Security agents who try to stop a preacher before a planned attack on Labor Day. The e-book costs $ 4.99 on Amazon.com.
Library receives grant
BELLAIRE – Bellaire Public Library is one of 100 small and rural libraries selected for funding in the third round of the American Library Association’s Libraries Transforming Communities initiative.
The northern Michigan facility plans to use the grant to sponsor Bellaire Reads in May and June 2022. BPL will purchase books that Bellaire Reads attendees can obtain for free.
SUTTONS BAY – Premonitions is hosting the Play for Paws event through December 15th. The arcade raises funds for the Cherryland Humane Society. Accepted items include dry and canned food for dogs and cats, peanut butter, pet beds, cleaning supplies, toys, and more. Call 231-946-5116.
PETOSKEY – Walloon Writers Review is seeking input for its seventh edition. The literary magazine accepts short stories, poems, essays and creative writings, as well as nature photography. Submissions are due December 15th at walloonwriters.com.

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse Area District Library is accepting submissions for Poets’ Night Out until January 25th. Northern Michigan authors can submit up to three works.
The entry fee is US $ 10 for individuals, US $ 5 for students and seniors.
Selected poems appear in the PNO Chapbook.

Appeal for donations
EMPIRE – Glen Lake Woman’s Club needs donated jewelry to sell at the Glen Lake Woman’s Club Art Fair in July. Proceeds from the sale will provide college scholarships to Glen Lake Community School graduates attending Northwestern Michigan College.
