New restaurant opens in downtown Grand Rapids hotel

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A new restaurant on the first floor of the Canopy by Hilton hotel in downtown Grand Rapids is scheduled to open on Friday, September 3rd.

Portico, 131 Ionia Ave. SW, serves a variety of starters, sandwiches, salads, soups, and entrees such as Cornish hen and cornbread, as well as smoked turkey and polenta ravioli.

“All Canopy hotels are uniquely designed to celebrate the neighborhoods they are in with an emphasis on the local people,” said Mark Parker, the hotel’s general manager, in a press release.

“Our Portico area exudes the rich history of Furniture City through our mid-century modern design. Rich wood textures and art throughout the room are a subtle nod to the wood industry that Grand Rapids was built on. “

You can find the menu of the restaurant here.

Canopy by Hilton opened at Studio Park in downtown Grand Rapids in September 2020.

Portico Cafe, which serves coffee and a variety of breakfast items, has been in operation since the hotel opened. But on Friday the Portico restaurant is open for dinner for the first time. The restaurant is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In addition to dinner, the restaurant also serves cocktails, beer, and wine.

“Grand Rapids is a city known for its breweries,” said Nick Oostendorp, Lead Food and Drink Enthusiast, in a press release. “With the title“ Beer City, USA ”it was a matter of course for Portico to present the local Grand Rapids breweries on tap. We wanted to go a step further and capitalize on the talent we have in this city by curating feature cocktails that highlight our Grand Rapids distilleries such as Eastern Kille, New Holland Artisan Spirits and Long Road Distillers. “
