Lansing resident drowns in Fox Memorial Park in Benton Township

BENTON TWP., Michigan (WILX) – A Lansing man is dead after drowning in Fox Memorial Park in Benton Township.

According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post, the police were dispatched to the park outside Potterville at around 1:42 p.m. for a possible drowning.

A 36-year-old Lansing resident tried to retrieve a beach ball that had been washed away in the water. He went underwater and, according to first responders, did not reappear for several minutes.

The citizens then found the man underwater and were taken ashore.

Benton Township EMS says they tried everything to save the man’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not disclose the victim’s name and said they would do so as soon as immediate family members were notified.
