Inside Amazon’s massive expansion in Metro Detroit

DETROIT – For more evidence of Metro Detroit’s reliance on Amazon, check out the former Silver Dome site in Pontiac, the huge warehouse in Hazel Park, and the former state fairgrounds.

That could just be the beginning. Here’s a look at what might come to Oakland County and it’s not just another warehouse. There is a lot of talk about Amazon expanding its food presence in the region.

Amazon projects in Metro Detroit are starting quickly. All you have to do is take a look at the $ 400 million development the online giant has already started on Detroit’s old fairgrounds.

Drive all the way to Pontiac and the former Pontiac Sliver Dome is unrecognizable. The former shabby shell of the Silver Dome is now a bustling Amazon village.

Over in Hazel Park, Michigan’s new delivery station with more warehouses and fulfillment centers is on the horizon.

While Amazon owns Whole Foods, it also has a separate grocery store with a lower price and more traditional brands.

Amazon Fresh Market and real estate insiders are talking of one who could come to Rochester Hills on Rochester Road, which is home to several larger stores that have closed.

For its part, Amazon will only say it isn’t speculating on rumors, but so far Amazon has five new facilities planned and 2,000 jobs planned this year.
