Grand Rapids records fewer homicides in 2021 following all-time high in 2020

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The number of murders in Grand Rapids has returned to normal levels for 2021 after a record spike in 2020.

The reasons are not easy to pin down, but most experts say the 2020 coronavirus pandemic lockdown likely contributed to this year’s deadly spike. In addition to missing out on some positive sales opportunities, the experts previously told MLive that the pressures and uncertainties from the pandemic contributed to the all-time high in 2020.
