Grand Rapids rallies past Monsters in third period | Sports
After the monsters’ six-game winning streak ended on April 20, hosts Grand Rapids Griffins handed Cleveland their second consecutive defeat on April 21.
The Griffins scored two goals in the third half and made a 2-1 decision.
Wyatt Newpower gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead with a power play goal in the middle of the second round.
Grand Rapids’ Givani Smith reacted at 5:30 a.m. in the third half to tie the game. Then, 1 minute, 35 seconds later, Troy Loggins scored the starting gate, which turned out to be the final lead.
Monster goalkeeper Matiss Kivlenieks saved 28 of the 30 shots he faced.
Cleveland will meet the Chicago Wolves at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on April 23 at 7 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. the next day.
