Grand Rapids man charged in U.S. 131 crash that killed 15-year-old boy

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A Grand Rapids man faces five charges over a crash on US 131 that killed a 15-year-old boy and injured a 15-year-old girl.

Ryan Michael Carter, 27, charged with operating while drunk and causing death, two cases where he did not stop at the scene, operating while drunk causing serious injury and the Crime hoax, Michigan State Police said.

Carter was tried in the 61st District Court on Friday, July 30th.

The collision with a single vehicle involving a 2020 F-150 pickup occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on July 6 on US 131 heading north near the Interstate 196 interchange.

Both teenagers were passengers in the truck Carter allegedly drove, police said.

Carter wasn’t hurt.
