Comedian Ed Hill on Apple TV, Amazon Prime coming to Lansing on Nov. 3

What internationally touring comedian Ed Hill, whose work can be found on Apple TV and Amazon Prime, finds most interesting about himself is the way he’s learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

When he performs – like he will in Lansing Thursday – he’s not necessarily trying to be the funniest person in the room. He’s trying to be the most interesting and most memorable while sharing his authentic and intimate experiences with the world. But he’s not trying to be 100% honest.

“I can’t tell people my credit card number, that’s just not gonna fly,” he joked, “(and) let’s be honest, the world’s very uncomfortable right now.”

Internationally touring comedian Ed Hill is scheduled to perform at the Robin Theater in Lansing on Nov. 3, 2022.

Hill will perform at the Robin Theater in REO Town Thursday along with comedians Mike Geeter and Richard Mathis. Doors open at 7 pm and tickets are $25 per or two for $40. Masks are recommended for everyone when not actively drinking and required if not vaccinated, according to the event’s description.

Theater co-founder Dylan Rogers said in an email that the show represents the beginning of a partnership between Robin Theater and Geeter, a Michigan comic who has worked with comedians like Kevin Hart, who’s been promoting and lifting the Michigan comedy scene.

The Robin Theater offers an intimate space; seating is very limited and there are just a few spaces left for Thursday’s show, Rogers said.

Hill called Geeter a friend and said they coordinated to get Hill to perform in Lansing. Hill’s was invited to perform at the Just For Laughs Comedy Fest in Vancouver Canada, Comedy Masala in Singapore, Live Comedy Club in Taiwan and San Francisco comedy festivals and more.

He’s certainly got some fans, with about 15,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram each and more than 9,000 Twitter followers. His Tweets have been featured on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

In 2021, Hill became the first comedian of Taiwanese-Canadian descent to release a full one-hour comedy special titled “Candy & Smiley” with Comedy Dynamics, the largest independent comedy production and distribution company in the United States, according to the company’s website .

After his Lansing performance, Hill has another Michigan performance the next day in Traverse City. He’s never been to Lansing or Traverse City before, but he’s been to the Detroit area quite a few times and said he likes Michigan.

“One thing that’s strange though, is seeing Tim Hortons because that’s such a Canadian thing,” he said.

When it comes to his performances, Hill said he doesn’t do politics. He’s not an observational comic or someone who does one-liners. But he’s fluid, introspective and open.

Internationally touring comedian Ed Hill is scheduled to perform at the Robin Theater in Lansing on Nov. 3, 2022.

“It’s almost having a conversation with me type of performance,” he said.

He’s hoping to connect with people, share his experiences and have them resonate with others.

He’s trying to capture life through comedy as much as he can and tap into the human condition.

“Because life is not always all funny, and life isn’t always all sad,” Hill said. “What life is though, is 100% authentic. So that’s what I’m really trying to capture.”

People can find out more about Hill’s future projects, including his next special “Stupid Ed” he’s planning to film in 2023, on his website.
