ANN ARBOR, MI – A house designed by Albert Kahn, the iconic architect who brought buildings such as the Hill Auditorium, Angell Hall, and the Burton Memorial Tower to the University of Michigan campus, was recently listed in Ann Arbor.
The house on 2101 Hill Street, which was listed for $ 2.37 million and is now under contract, incorporates many of the branded design features Kahn is known for in its residential, commercial and industrial buildings, Jeffrey Post said , the realtor for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.
The 7,100-square-foot classic Georgian Revival home has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms that demonstrate the proportion, balance, style, and elegance found in many of the buildings that made Kahn one of Detroit’s most famous architectural designers have said Post.

“When something like this happens, everyone’s radar goes off,” said Post. “The rarity of it is special.”
The house was designed by Kahn in 1913 for the University of Michigan professor George Patterson and his wife on land that was previously an orchard and later belonged to the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. It has since been owned by three other families and has two acres of mature trees and gardens.

Large windows facing south in the living and dining room provide plenty of natural light in the winter months. When the sun changes position in the summer months, the design keeps the property comfortable and cool, Post said.

The main kitchen has been updated by the house’s most recent owners, Post said, and features a Viking Range and Sub-Zero refrigerator.
“What every owner has tried, and I think they have done it quite successfully, was to keep the character of the original home but modernize it so that it is comfortable for the current occupant,” Post said.
