About 63,000 DTE Energy customers still without power in Metro Detroit

DETROIT – Around 63,000 DTE Energy customers were without power on Sunday at 5:30 p.m., more than 3,000 crews were working on site to restore the power supply.

The Michigan storms left nearly a million households without power on Thursday. In its heyday, the state had an estimated 864,000 households without electricity.

The DTE Energy and Consumers Energy crews have been working to restore power to the region. Both companies expect the restoration work to be completed by the end of the weekend.

Around 80 percent recovery was expected to be complete by Saturday, with 95 percent of the power being returned to customers on Sunday night.

“We are well on our way to having the vast majority of customers – around 95% – restored by the end of today,” DTE Energy said in a statement released on Sunday.

The statement went on to say, “We understand how difficult it is to be without electricity, especially given the repetition of strong storms from July 1st to August 11th. We have dispatched 3,000 people to our communities to restore power to customers as quickly as possible. Our DTE line workers are joined by more than 1,200 employees from other states such as New York, Louisiana and Florida as well as Canada. “
